Internship Spotlight: Victoria Clarke (HCM)

October 01, 2021

Career Goal

Healthcare executive e.g. CEO, COO, hospital president. (I’ll be returning to the Cleveland Clinic after graduation to complete an administrative fellowship, which will put me on the right trajectory to do just that!)

Internship Outline

Graduate Administrative Intern at the Cleveland Clinic’s Emergency Services Institute (ESI). I led multidisciplinary teams on a project involving emergency department revenue from EKGs, developed and gained stakeholder buy-in for a non-clinical, standardized geriatric comfort cart for older patient care and spearheaded the development of a geriatric telehealth pilot to provide consultation services to Cleveland Clinic facilities without geriatric presence.

Value of Experience

My internship was the first experience I had working full-time and being in a hospital administration setting. I was able to apply what I’ve learned from the classroom to real-world scenarios and also gain skills in project management and relationship building. It really solidified that this is the field I want to spend my career in, and I’m so grateful to have spent the summer at such a renowned and innovative health system.

Best Moment/Experience

I have a clinical background as an EMT, so having the chance to interact with patients and clinical caregivers this summer was amazing. I was able to shadow physicians in the emergency department and also had the opportunity to watch a heart surgery and a brain surgery!
